A Letter From Our President:
The entire Jackson Hole Juggernauts Roller Derby League would like to express our gratitude for the outpouring of support that was shown on Saturday, April 16th during our first home bout of the season. We are thrilled with the coverage that the local media continues to provide and also extend big thanks to sponsors and volunteers who have been with us from day one as well as those who just joined us this year! As a completely volunteer, member-run organization, we couldn't do it without you! This league has worked extremely hard for the past 4 years to consistently build the team with new members, create it's 501(c)3 non-profit status and become an official WFTDA-sanctioned (Women's Flat Track Derby Association) league member. In addition, the team constantly strives for the ultimate in physical conditioning and skills training to provide Jackson with quality off-season sports entertainment. This league has come a long way in a very short period of time! With all this progress comes the next big push: We need a space to practice. Snow King Sports and Events Center has been very generous in allowing us to practice and hold our bouts at the facility. However, at the end of May Snow King will close it's doors to all activities and events in order to repair the ice-making system in the floor. Other facilities (Kelly School gymnasium, Teton County Fair Building, Victor School gym) where we have held practices will also not be available after the end of May. While the other facilities mentioned here have been a great alternative during the winter when Snow King is not available to us, none of them are big enough to create a proper sized track that allows for game scrimmages or full-track drills. Our season schedule is currently booked into July, where we stand to be very strong contenders for the Wyoming Roller Derby Cup! If we are able to secure another venue for practices, we are looking at adding another bout to extend our season into August. We are in true need and are calling on all community members to brainstorm some ideas for us. Whether it is a temporary solution that gives us a place to practice and possibly scrimmage for the remainder of this season (June - early August) or if you have a grand plan that could springboard us to having our own venue, we would greatly appreciate any help! Please email any of the following board members with your ideas: Janice Bushnell, President (SassN8R): [email protected] Tracy Denison, Vice President (Rhonda Gauntlet): [email protected] Brenda Younkin, Treasurer (Idealia Pain): [email protected] Thank you for all the support and we look forward to two more amazing crowds at our remaining home bouts: April 30th and May 7th - doors open at 6:00! With much love and gratitude from all the Juggernauts! Janice
